Wings of Fire Book 3 Review

Title: The Hidden Kingdom

Warning: SPOILER

Rating: 8/10

Summary: The dragonets go to the rainforest to find Glory’s parents. Glory is determined to prove that Rainwings aren’t lazy, but when she meets the rest of her tribe she realises it’s true. And Glory finds out that she doesn’t really have a family, and to see who’s related to who is solved by testing their venom. Glory noticed the Rainwing queens are quite problematic and won’t help her find Rainwings that have been going missing. So Glory becomes queen and helps rescue the kidnapped Rainwings.

Review: This is one of the best books in the series, not only because Glory is one of my favourite characters. I loved how there was a competition for the queens and I loved the designs for each dragon. I really liked the plot as well as Glory’s character development.

Wings of Fire Book 2 Review

Title: The Lost Heir

Warning: SPOILERS

Rating: 7/10

Summary: After Clay finds his siblings, The four friends go to the Kingdom of the Sea. Tsunami meets another Seawing called Riptide, and he teaches her the Seawing language. Tsunami and her friends are brought to the Kingdom and Tsunami finds her mother, the Queen of the Sea. She also finds her unknown little sister, who she rivals with at first but then becomes good friends. Tsunami also finds out something is killing all the newborn princesses, so she finds it and stops it from destroying anymore. To protect Tsunami, her mother locks them all up, but they escape narrowly and manage to leave the kingdom.

Review: This book was honestly really good. I liked how Tsunami still thought of her friends, even through all of the drama with her friends. She shows development from first trying to protect her friends but coming out as bossy and reckless, then acting as an equal. What I didn’t like was Queen Coral, Tsunami’s mother. I knew something was wrong when she first met her mother. I understand that Coral didn’t want to lose her daughter, but Tsunami grew up without her and turned out fine. Locking up her and her friends was wrong.

Wings of Fire Book 1 Review

Title: The Dragonet Prophecy

Warning: SPOILER

Rating: 4/10

Summary: Clay and his friends Tsunami, Sunny, Glory and Starflight, destined to save the world and stop the war, sneak away from their guardians to explore the world. They are captured by the Skywings and are forced to fight to the death in an arena, then narrowly escaped to the Mud Kingdom where Clay’s family is.

Review: I liked the book, but since Clay’s not my favourite character, his perspective wasn’t extremely amazing. It was interesting to hear from his thoughts, but it bothered me when his life would revolve around his friends. Peril was nice, but she didn’t have a lot of development. Sunny was locked away for most of the book. Starflight was barely mentioned until he had to fight. Glory was pretty cool, though. And Tsunami had lots of scenes with Clay, so I was debating weather to ship Tsunlay or Cleril.

Underrated Characters

Firstly, Turtle is very underrated. Many people dislike him from being quiet and boring, but he is truly the opposite. Book nine, which is written from his perspective, is a lot more focused on his thoughts and his surroundings, much more than characters with lots of dialogue. Also, Turtle is one of the more realistic characters, from worrying naturally and having common sense.

Next, Darkstalker. I know you would probably be staring at the screen as if I’m crazy, but please continue because I have my reasons. Firstly, Darkstalker thought he was doing the right thing. It’s pretty common for someone to think something is the right choice, even though it’s not. It’s as simple as getting a math question wrong- you find a solution and it turns out to be incorrect. Furthermore, Darkstalker didn’t have an evil personality. He’s funny, charismic and smart, just like Qibli but y’all still hate Darkstalker for that.

Finally, Freedom. Spoilers if you didn’t know, Freedom is introduced as Lizard in book 15, The Flames of Hope. She was very snappy and rude, which probably wasn’t a very good impression. But Freedom grew a fondness of Dusky, and that’s what changed her. Freedom is bad tempered, but she was also kind of locked in the othermind for hundreds of years, living with an arrogant human. Of course she would be impatient and suspicious.

so yeah thats it :3

Yeah I suck at drawing dragons, but yeah this is it! It’s not anyone in particular but I just wanted to draw an icewing 🙂

Ranting About Moon Wings of Fire!

Here’s the thing. Moon is a pretty cool dragon, and I respect her. But oh my gosh, she is SO overrated! So overrated that even the characters in the series have an unnecessary crush on her oml. I’m talking about Qibli and Winter.

Firstly, Moon is a mind reader and apparently that is perceived as attractive. Yeah, sure it can be cool in different ways but telepathy is a really common trait in different books, so that can be boring. It also can be viewed as disrespectful and impolite, because I’m sure quite a bit of people would rather have their own thoughts. It is quite useful, but not really for the actual characters who are having their thoughts invaded.

Secondly, Moon is a character that everyone genuinely likes. So that’s part of the reason I agree with Anemone (check out her page). She has no that Moon actually hates, she’s quite neutral. Tui T Sutherland did a good job at making a responsible, kind character, but Moon has a heavily weighted Mary Sue vibe around her. She’s like, perfect in every way and if you think her flaws are worrying, thats good because she’s cautious and has common sense.

Lastly, she’s involved in a love triangle that all Wof fans love. I like it, it’s interesting, but because of that everyone places her on the top of their favourite character list. Winter had a huge crush on her because what? She had the guts to stand up to an Icewing prince? I find that reason entirely stupid because it’s not like Winter is the king of the world. And Qibli likes her genuinely, because she’s a nice and good hearted dragon. So I ship Moonbli instead of Winterwatcher.

Thanks for reading 🙂

WoF personality look alikes :)

For this post I’ll be comparing similarities between wings of fire characters and characters from other books.

QIBLI —> KEEFE SENCEN (KOTLC)

MOON —> SOPHIE FOSTER (KOTLC)

WINTER —> RITZ CRACKER (KOTLC)

KINKAJOU —> CINDERPELT/SQUIRRELFLIGHT (WARRIORS)

SNOWFALL —> LEOPARDSTAR (WARRIORS)

GLORY —> SANDSTORM (WARRIORS)

Yeah thats all I can think of right now haha I might add some later 🙂

Rating Different WoF things!

I feel like I have mixed opinions about different characters, books and ideas. So I’m going to create a table based on each rating out of 5 and list my thoughts there.

  • Winter and Moon (as a character)

RATED 4 STAR:

  • Clearsight when she travels to the lost continent

Ranting about Wings of Fire ANEMONE!!

All right, I guess this isn’t really a rant. It’s more like me complaining and complimenting her at the same time… but who cares.

Anyways, let’s talk about who Anemone is first. She is the second youngest daughter of Queen Coral of the Seawings. Before Tsunami and Auklet came along, Anemone was tied to a harness so she wouldn’t be out of the queen’s sight. She wasn’t allowed to go anywhere alone because Queen Coral was paranoid that she might die.

Now that is what made her ambitious and curious, she wanted to see the outside world. So when Auklet was born, Anemone was let free from her harness and she attended the Jade Mountain Academy.

Now one thing to note is that Anemone was an animus, so she had a huge entitlement on top of her head, sometimes making her arrogant or come off as rude.

So I always kind of disliked her ‘attitude’ because I felt like the way she talked to Turtle and Tsunami and … basically EVERYONE was like … impatient, or irritated, or just… impolite. Like whenever Turtle had a conversation with her Anemone would roll her eyes and not take him seriously.

Back on to with her ‘entitlement’, I guess she always felt like she couldn’t do anything without Coral’s supervision. It was also probably the way she was raised, being treated like the princess she was and having Coral being super overprotective.

She was honestly quite smart in book 9 and 10, helping Qibli and Turtle whenever she got the actual chance. She realised that Darkstalker was not the person she had looked up to, and turned against him in spite.

Anyways, thats all I want to cover for now, so thats the end of this post!
