Firstly, Turtle is very underrated. Many people dislike him from being quiet and boring, but he is truly the opposite. Book nine, which is written from his perspective, is a lot more focused on his thoughts and his surroundings, much more than characters with lots of dialogue. Also, Turtle is one of the more realistic characters, from worrying naturally and having common sense.
Next, Darkstalker. I know you would probably be staring at the screen as if I’m crazy, but please continue because I have my reasons. Firstly, Darkstalker thought he was doing the right thing. It’s pretty common for someone to think something is the right choice, even though it’s not. It’s as simple as getting a math question wrong- you find a solution and it turns out to be incorrect. Furthermore, Darkstalker didn’t have an evil personality. He’s funny, charismic and smart, just like Qibli but y’all still hate Darkstalker for that.
Finally, Freedom. Spoilers if you didn’t know, Freedom is introduced as Lizard in book 15, The Flames of Hope. She was very snappy and rude, which probably wasn’t a very good impression. But Freedom grew a fondness of Dusky, and that’s what changed her. Freedom is bad tempered, but she was also kind of locked in the othermind for hundreds of years, living with an arrogant human. Of course she would be impatient and suspicious.
